  • My dad was stationed here in the mid(I think) 60's. We actually drove through last summer on vacation and he pointed out where things used to be. I am trying to make a scrapbook for him, but he doesn't have a lot of pictures.

  • Thanks for these pictures of Kincheloe. I was there from Dec. 67 to Oct. 71. I hated it at first but ended up having a great time and my memories are all good. Wish that I had taken pictures but I guess it just never crossed my mind. The base pictures looked the same later when I was there. Great times.

  • Wow what great memories. Thanks for these pictures. Spent 4 years at Kincheloe. years 1966-1970.The winters were brutal and I couldnt wait to get out of there but it still holds a strong place in my heart. My son was born at the base hospital. Served both as ADC and Sac. Pol refueler got to see the planes up close and those great pilots. Planning a trip this year for the first time since 1970. Cant wait. Ed Coppinger erc888@ptd.net

  • Thanks soooo much for posting these photos! They bring back so many memories of Kincheloe. Another Air Force brat who lived in base housing 1960-1961. Now a retired Lt Col USAFR. Hoping to also one day return and take a tour of Kincheloe.

  • Another AF Brat. So many of the places we grew up don't exist anymore. Seeing those pictures (my parents pictures have all gone missing) gave me a wierd little feeling of connection...I was there in 1965 at age 5. Wierd, now I work at a prison and have always felt kinda homey in the drab colors of the institution!!! Thank you so very much for posting the pics.

  • Great photos. I remember some of you guys. I was a missile mechanic in the 37th ADMS. A lot of the things that happened are fading out, but after seeing the photos...things started coming back into my mind from those days. Thanks! John Frye 37th ADMS 1962-1965

  • Thanks for the Kincheloe photos. Your photo, "Winter at Kincehleo" shows the barracks I lived in. You might have been living there at the same time I was! I was stationed there from January '60 to April '61. The room on the 2nd floor on the corner was my home during that period. Seems that you were an AP. The AP's lived in the other end of the barracks from me. The end your photo shows faced the streed where the Gym, the Comm Center, and the steam plant were. What a surprise to see this after all these years.

  • I was also an AF Brat and lived at Kincheloe from 68-70. What was the name of the elementary school. My 3rd grade teacher was Mrs. Lemon and my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Hall. Remember the woods all around the school and there was rumors there was a killer out there. Love to her from drkphd...I probably know you. I loved Kincheloe, Sault St. Marie, Fort Mackinaw, Tacquenam Falls...very beautiful country. And you mentioned Dukes Lake!! what fun.

  • To drkphd: I used to ride a bicycle through the housing area when I was stationed at KAFB in 1966 to 1968. Since I did not drive nor had a desire to do so, biking was my way of enjoying the scenery and meeting people. Perhaps I met you. I remember several folks I met while biking. I wish I had a chance to visit the base but I fear those days of long distance travel are over. At least for now.

  • I was a AF Brat who lived at Kincheloe from '66 to '69. I just this Fall returned to visit the old haunts. As the latter photos in this collection show, it ain't nothin' like it was when the AF was there. The locals are happy to show old military the things they've done to old military housing. The onetime skislope at Duke's Lake has returned to nature. I wish I had known about the military museum, though. That would've been fun to visit.
