When searching through the albums of people from different countries, one is conscious of the good looks of the Scots and the Irish. Few peoples on earth have the physical handsomeness of the people from these countries. Your family is particularly handsome. Your picture was taken seventeen years ago. I hope every one of your loved ones are still hale and hearty. == Hybie in America

Hi Rod (and Chris) - most importantly, I owe you a gi-normous apology for taking such an age in thanking you for your very much appreciated GB entry in my feature album last month. Getting to your home page left me quite gobsmacked and at a loose end - "Where do I start?" Living in a country that has what have to be the most magnificent surroundings, must be quite glorious - and I do envy you (also the cold weather beats ours!) Having noticed the undeniably deserved and great number of your featured albums, I decided I'd start at the beginning and work my way through, leaving the best for last. I can't wait for the moment when I have time enough to ogle for hours. Thanks and apologies respectively, together with congrats on your smashing gallery. Best wishes, Sue. p.s. I did find myself with a smile on my dial viewing some of these that you consider 'funny' - perhaps the imagination left to be desired by viewers adds a bigger grin... LOL :-)!! Best wishes, Sue in horribly hot SA.

Hi Rod, Congratulations on 4 featured albums. That is really something to be proud of. And you have a very nicely done personal family one. I love to look at other people's photos, but I also like to see who the photographer is and learn something about them if I can. I like the personal touch. Great photos. I also checked out all your flower albums. Lots of beautiful colors there. I invite you to check out my Flowers album if you haven't already done so. Donna from NY State

Hi Rod, As a rule I do not look at to many of these types of albums, I always feel as if I am intruding, but I thought it was time to see what this Rod fellow looks like, obviously a very intelligent person with a wonderful eye for photography, these old pictures are marvellous after all this time, when you think how easy the photography of today is compared to all those years ago. I really must thank you for the very kind words written in my GB. I sometimes wish that I had taken some of those pictures in a different way, but I just hope that I can learn something every time I take a pic. Thanks again and the very best regards to you and all your family, Ken

Hi Rod. I've just been through all these again and thinking maybe I should make my family album public. We have some that would have been taken around the turn of the previous century by a professional portrait photographer and they are so incredibly sharp and still in excellent condition. When you consider their equipment and how they had to work 100+ years ago that is nothing short of amazing. I remember my dad chopping off part of my bedroom and making it into a darkroom for himself - and how fascinated I was (as a 15 year old) to see the images gradually materialise as he rocked the dish from side to side. I got my first camera about this time - a black box with a little chrome lever that you pulled to operate the shutter! It produced photos about one and a half inches square and I was really chuffed! I tried to scan some and then blow them up a few months ago but they wouldn't take it! Many thanks for your constructive thoughts in my Wildflowers and country towns GB and I always appreciate what you have to say. I am actually part way through an Aussie Landscapes album in my georgieboy05 site and have used quite a few scanned slides mixed in with present day digital shots - all to try and show the diversities of our countryside. I see Nikon have introduced the D200 now but it's around $3000 without the lens! Somehow I don't think Betty would go along with that idea! As you cool down we are warming up and it was around 30C while we were away last weekend. Trouble is at this time of year we get the really strong winds. Pushing the car door open can be a struggle and it's more than you dare do to use a tripod. But once Christmas is over the winds seem to die out and then it is just plain HOT! Thanks again. Best wishes, Peter

Dear Peter, These pictures have really made me smile but in a good way especially the fashion statements I can understand why these mean a lot to you. I just wanted to say thank you for removing all the extra GB enties I'm almost scared to try and post this message to see how many times it might appear I'm not really that scatty honest LOL. Take care now my friend Jill

Hi Rod and I've just been having another look in this album. Cannot resist old photos! I was admiring your work on the signpost at Lands End - that was a good job (and a nice photo as well!). I hadn't realised you were a golfer - do you still play? We have a course literally on our doorstep and go out there two or three times every week year round. I see in #24 you are using a tripod - do you use that all the time? Not a bad idea. Did I ever show you, or tell you, the photo I made up of 6 generations of our families? It marked my first attempt at using layers and whenever I look back on it I cringe but all our visitors admire it so that's something! Many thanks for your encouraging comments in my Chittering Valley album - the only thing missing in those photos was some cloud but there was not ONE in the sky the whole day. I toyed with the idea of putting some in but then decided to leave things as they were. All the best, Peter

G'day Rod and greetings once again from the land down under. You just can't beat the old family photo and even after spending hours working them in Photoshop the original is still the one we treasure the most! I have scores of them in acid free paper and they date back to the mid 1800's. Where possible I have married them to Birth and Marriage certificates as well. As for the photoshopped ones, they are all safely stored on CD (with 2 or 3 copies) and spread around the family. No doubt you have done the same. We must always cling to these old family memories. Now Rod, your professional opinion please on my Journey Across Australia album because the pics are all scans of 20 year old slides. I am one eyed about them, naturally, which is why I value an independent expert assessment. Good on yer mate!! Peter in Western Australia

Hallo Rod - Even though I don't know you, but find it interesting to see old photos, like you have here. Often contemplating myself to post photos of my family from the past, but wonder, who would want to see them... Obviously, as seen here, more people, than you imagine. How true it is, today's photos will be tomorrow's good old pictures. In any case, wishing you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - from the US - Jim

Fantastic pictures of Torbay etc Rod, I would like to include a link to them on the website for my shop in Torquay but I would like your agreement first. I was planning to use some of my own photos but yours are so much better. I'd be grateful if you would email me at ayjayh@eurobell.co.uk. By one of those strange things that happen sometimes, I recognise Norman in your family pics as someone I worked with at STC about 30 years ago when he was busy carburising ceramic rods. Is he your brother? Tony H.

You look just the same as you did in 1975 - well, almost. Quite an effort getting all the old photos together, but it does provide an interesting history - not least of fashion. Good album

Love this album Rod, I think I vaguely remember your Dad on seeing the 57 Family group, and I notice the date on the Honeymoon at Lands End 29th September 1987.... my 20th Wedding Anniversary. Old photos are a joy to look at they bring back so many memories of our family who sadly are no longer with us. Louise

Bonjour Rod! This is a great album and as you say quality of the pictures is secondary,it's interesting to see the evolution of a friend trough the years;i'm thinking of doing one myself. Thanks for your comments on my covered bridges 2 album,i have been mostly working on the pictures i already had,but there is also a few new ones.To answer your question, yes we are having a lot of snow, but it melts after a day or two,i hope i will be able to take some good pictures before Christmas!Best Regards.Luc

The quality does not determine the value here. Rather, quality is determined by the importance to the possessor. These are precious images and I can understand why they are priceless to you. Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present, and future. Your family looks lovely. Thanks for sharing. I smiled all the way through the slide show. Blessing to you and to yours, Barb :)
