I was there and it was hot (temp). It seems we ran out of basic items like food and water. It was supposed to go 8 days and 40 frontline groups with another 40 second tier acts. By day three, I remember Stephen Stills telling us to please go home and that there was no more food. A few foodstands were overwhelmed and destroyed. I think I left after the 3rd or 4th day. I remember that I had a huge Red Cross flag that I was using for a tent,- and medical people there asked if I would give it to them to raise above the med area. Eric Burdon (one of my favs) threw a tantrum and screamed at all of us because many many were sleeping/crashing when he came on (4AM). After 2 songs (spill the wine) he split. This was the last of the big big festivals and supposed to be the biggest. It just fizzled away after 3-4 days...a let down. After this, promoters had to jump through many legal hoops just to present a smaller festival- and rightly so I think. Providing the food, water, medical, securi ty and financial nesessities became legal priorities. Limitations on how many could attend became very very strict. It was sad how it all ended...but a valued part of Americana, and a poignant memory for me.

What else can you say but that this was a "Sign Of The Time". And what a time it was.

Indeed. I didn't think anyone else but me and my brother remembered this festival. It was a rough one but it was great here in La.
