======================================== =========================== ENGINE and TRANNY READY ?? ======================================== =========================== Doug is getting the motor and tranny ready for hoisting onto the Chassis Black frame. ======================================== =========================== I think it was nearing midnight when this picture was taken. And just like Larry the Cable Guy, "Just Get er Done!" And we were excited to get this onto the frame to see if everything fit. ======================================== =========================== Let me say, this was a Big Wine Cooler type night, both with excitement and a sense of noticeable progress and accomplishment. ======================================== =========================== Valve covers, intake manifold, etc are "Old School" look and style to maintain the look of the era. Altho a 350 engine was not available in 1961 Chevy pickups, a 283 V8 was an option back then. Effort was taken to give this the look of a 283, but with the beef of the 355. So to the novice, this will appear to be a correct era 283 V8, altho any expert will notice the real beef associated with this engine. Even tho V8s were available in the 1961 Apache, they were still not that common. Mostly these work trucks had a straight 6 cylinder option under the hood. ======================================== =========================== The Turbo 350 automatic transmission (with Race Shift KIT upgrade) was purchased thru a dealership in Rochester, MN. As well the new stall torque converter. A 350TH was not available in 1961 either, only the 2 speed powerglide transmission. As we discovered during this project, an automatic tranny in a 1961 Apache was extremely RARE. Maybe the number of them could be counted on one hand. (Not really one hand, but you get the idea.) Remember these were work trucks, not a city boy truck. ======================================== ===========================
