The tree was given a blessing ceromony to thank it for giving it to the canoe project. Officials from the Sealalaska Corporation, Sealaska Timber, and Sealaska Heritage Institute witness the ceromony. The log was obtained off Sealaska land near Craig on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska.
