To make the neck gasket pattern, I used the 12-inch string for the top of the neck and the 28-inch string for the bottom of the gasket that attaches to the dry suit. I laid the strings down on a piece of paper and used the height dimension of the latex gasket—seven inches—and kept that distance constant between the strings. I tried several different pattern styles, and the design that yielded the best results is shown here. This pattern also allows me to have only one seam in the gasket so that it will have the maximum amount of stretch and comfort. To get a secure fit and seal around the neck it's important to cut the ends of the gasket perpendicular or slightly inward from the top neckline.
