Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round, 27th overall in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, Nieuwendyk, one of the most respected players of his era, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. A three time Stanley Cup Champion (1989, 1999 and 2003), he won the 1988 Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year), the 1988 Dodge Ram Tough Award (Most combined PP, SH, T and GW goals), the 1995 King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Humanitarian of the Year) and the 1999 Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoffs' MVP). Voted to play in four All-Star Games (1988, 1989,1990 and 1994) over the course of 20 NHL seasons, he was a consisant sniper, netting 20+ goals 15 times, 30+ goals 8 times, 40+ goals 4 times and had 2 50+ goal seasons. Suiting up with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers, he played in 1257 games (66th NHL All-Time list), scoring 564 goals (20th NHL All-Time list), 562 assists (87th NHL All-Time list) 1,126 points (51st NHL All-Time list, 0.90 PPG), +155 and 677 PIM's. On the International stage, Nieuwendyk represented Canada at the 1986 World Junior Championships, at the 1990 World Championships, and is a two-time member of Canada's Olympic team, playing in 1998 and winning the Gold Medal in 2002 Games.
