Using an ironing board, soccer ball or wooden forms sawn to match the contour of the gasket can help hold the gasket down flat so that the iron doesn't accidentally touch and melt the nylon material. The tape will be installed to half of the gasket while in this position on the ironing board. Make sure not to stretch the gasket much when applying the heat tape. If the glued seam has to much pressure on it, it could start to separate when applying the heat.
