Album Info:

the two baby lorikeets are flanked by their parents, with the daddy feeding the baby near him; all having their meals courtesy of the Cheung's family; Cheung Wah Hung Alan in Sydney, Australia has the following story to tell: When I was six [note by WKM: that was in the late fifties], I chanced to pick up an injured fledgling bird one day from the flowerbed of my North Point home's balcony (origin of the bird could not be traced as no one living nearby claimed possession). I cared for her tenderly and the beautiful bird grew robustly to become our beloved family pet for the ensuing 20 years before she died of old age. She was sorely missed. In 1990, my wife Helena and I moved in to our new home in Sydney, Australia. We were pleasantly surprised but overly excited and happy to receive our first visitors, a pair of parrots looking exactly like the injured fledgling poor little creature I saved from the flowerbed of my old home over 30 years ago! The pair wore strikingly bright markings with a dark blue head and belly, a bright green back, tail and vent and a red breast and beak. Their beaks repeatedly pecked on our kitchen window panes. We guessed that they were asking us for food and we fed them with the food items used to be favored by my old pet bird, bread and sugar, which they savored with great enjoyment. Thereafter, they made daily calls on us and continuously for the next 15 years. Later on, I came to know that they were Rainbow Lorikeets, native birds of eastern seaboard of Australia, ranging from Queensland to South Australia, feeding mainly on pollen and nectar (hence a liking for sugary stuff), and possessing a tongue adapted specially for their particular diet. Alas, after 15 years, in 2005, they passed away but it is a great consolation to us that their offspring and their extended families go on visiting us. Now there are more than 50 Rainbow Lorikeets for us to tend every single day (see next image)!
