    • Day II, Benson Point. Conditions were breaking down, and there was a 2m swell with 2 - 4 foot chop. We rested here and decided to pound back to the shelter of the islands for our campsite. This area was known to us as the site of two kayak fatalities in 2003, with large swells and winds kicking up very quickly. The beach is very exposed and the weather forecast we had was for strong to gale force winds which would have pinned us at Benson Point. We made the decision to head towards the island chain for shelter, as were still over 60km from our vehicle with two days and a bad forecast. The weater stayed bad til we arrived at our second campsite, and then got much better.
