Age: 10 Gender: Neutered Male Color: Liver and White Weight: 35 lbs Variety: Field Bred 7/25/07: What a mess poor Levi was in when he came to ESRA! This resilient senior was found by a good samaritan who turned him over to Rescue. He was hairless on a good portion of his body due to severe but easily treated flea allergies. He was also underweight, suffering from uncomfortable dry eye, and has severely calcified joints. Step one was to get rid of the fleas and get him started on meds for his skin. After a course of antibiotics and low dose steroids to control the itching, his coat is starting to grow back in and he's looking like a handsome boy again! He still has hair loss around his eyes and bottom, but we expect his full coat to grow back within a few months. After looking at his x-rays, our vet feels he likely suffered from untreated hip dysplasia as a pup – his hip and shoulder sockets are heavily calcified which understandably limits his range of motion. It sure doesn't limit his 'get up and go' though! He loves to trot around the yard with our other dogs and will even roll around on the floor playing with our 18 month old Springer. Levi, like so many seniors, is a gentle soul who simply wants to take it easy, to love, and to be loved for his last years. He's an affectionate boy who gives kisses freely and will hop up on his back legs (no small feat with his joints!) and talk to you when he's happy. Levi is housetrained, crate-trained, good with cats and submissive with other dogs. He would enjoy a quiet home with adults or older children. He's heartworm negative, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. Please be sure to submit an application before inquiring about Levi.
