Album Info:

It’s my feeling that water collecting in lower area of the bunk doorframe can’t be avoided, it’s going happen during a decent rainfall just sitting in the driveway. I’ve seen it happen time and time again on my unit and ones sitting at the dealership. I believe that water sitting in this area can slosh around once the camper hitched up and pulled down the highway. The rubber dam near the door hinge can’t keep the water from intruding inward at each end near the sides of the doorframe. As a result, the sides of bunk board absorb the water and swell up, encouraging mold and mildew growth as well. I wouldn’t suggest that folks go copying this modification just yet. The 23ss uses a pair of these “drip trays” just underneath the slideout, near the side walls to catch water runoff from the slideout’s roof when moved inside. I bought a pair ($3 ea. from Forrest River) to use underneath the bottom of the door bunk frame, on each side to catch water that would otherwise collect in this area. A small threaded hole can be seen just above the right side of the drip tray in the photo. This allows water to drain from this area, into the drip tray, through the tubing and out the bottom of the camper. Silicone caulk was used to ensure the water ends up in the try. A small teardrop dab of silicone (not seen) was placed just under the hole to coax and ensure the water ends up in the tray. A coffee pot full of water was slower poured in the lower doorframe to test it before buttoning it up. My only concern with this mod is the thought of possible ice damming occurring during winter storage. For this period of time, I’ll probably install threaded plugs in the holes and let the water drool out the front corners.
