The 87 year old owner was moved recently from his house to an assisted living facility and it became difficult for him to take care of Butch, especially letting Butch out on a leash to go to the bathroom when Butch was used to a doggie door and acreage. It was very painful for him to give Butch away to ESRA. He did so only after he was told ESRA would find a perfect home for Butch. He had had Butch since he was a puppy. There were no other people in the family, and Butch was used to being at his person's side. Butch would do best with another male to bond to. In the current foster home, he cries when the husband leaves the house. He would not do well in a kennel situation. He does great in the house. He can be left alone for hours inside the house with another dog and does not get into trouble. He is a very well behaved dog, housetrained, obedient, listens well. He is anxious about new places and situations. He was quite anxious at the vet and also when he went to work with the foster mom. But when he's at home, he is SO happy and calm! He has been through a great loss and needs someone with patience and understanding. Butch is ok with other dogs. He chased our cats at first but seems to ignore them now after we told him 'no' several times. He pulls hard when on a leash and will require more training. He always was able to run around on acreage and isn't used to a leash at this point. His owner used to have food set out all the time for Butch. We can't do that since we have 2 other dogs so we've been trying to get him to eat twice a day. We've been told that Butch is good with kids but have not observed him with any. Butch will provide all the love and companionship that you can get, especially if you are a man. Right now we are thinking he'd do best with another dog and even better with someone who was home a lot.
