Age: 3 years Gender: Female Color: Black and White Weight: 40 lbs Variety: Bench bred Felicia’s story is very interesting. She came into rescue as a new mother with a litter of seven puppies. She was found in a field by a dog warden and was in need of immediate medical attention. The normal protocol would have been to euthanize her, but a Good Samaritan stepped in and rushed her to the vet where she had an emergency C-section. They held her and the puppies for a week while conducting an extensive owner search. No owner came forward. Felicia and the five surviving puppies (two died during the first week) were turned over to rescue when the puppies were a week old. Felicia is a wonderful dog and has many characteristics that are not typical of a stray. She is housetrained, walks very well on a leash, loves car rides, and adores people. She tries to dominate other dogs so would be happiest as an only dog. Actually, she does well with other dogs but is jealous of the human attention. Cats do not faze Felicia at all. She also loves children. She has no problem with a one year old tugging on her ears. As long as she is getting love and attention, she is happy. She is also a counter surfer, so you have to be careful when preparing and eating food. Felicia does not like being separated from her human companions. She would do best in a home that has someone home most of the time. Felicia has a docked tail. Interestingly, only one dewclaw has been removed, she still has the other. She appears to be a bench bred Springer, but she does have a thicker coat. It may be from her time as a stray. She was covered in matts and ticks when she was found, so her ears had to be shaved. Her feathering is starting to grow back, and she was recently given a Springer trim. Felicia is a little underweight, and we are working on building it up. It will probably get better once the puppies are weaned. Felicia is heartworm negative and has a clean bill of health despite the fact that she suffered from a worm infestation from her time as a stray. That is currently being treated and monitored by her veterinarian. She is up to date on all of her shots. Felicia will not be ready to go to her forever home until the puppies are weaned and ready to be placed themselves, most likely sometime in September. She will be spayed before she is adopted. She is anxiously awaiting the growth of her puppies so she can go to a new forever home. Please consider Felicia and all of the love that she can offer.
